Week in Review: Automations, Vendor Portal & AI Field Tools
This was a big week for CityCycle. We shipped over 100 commits across the platform, introducing powerful new features for both city staff and their hauler partners.
Workflow Automations
The new Automations module lets you configure multi-step workflows that trigger automatically based on compliance events.
- Step Builder UI - Visually design workflows with email, SMS, or task assignment steps
- Trigger Infrastructure - Automations fire based on events like missed inspections, NOV deadlines, or waiver expirations
- Default Templates - Get started quickly with pre-built automation templates
- Timing Controls - Set delays between steps (e.g., “send reminder 7 days after NOV issued”)
This is a game-changer for enforcement escalation. Instead of manually tracking follow-ups, CityCycle handles it automatically.
Hauler Vendor Portal
We launched vendor.citycycle.app - a dedicated portal for hauler partners.
Haulers can now:
- View their assigned jurisdictions and franchise agreements
- Submit CalRecycle reports directly
- Track franchise fee payments and tonnage reports
- Receive and respond to city requests
This reduces the back-and-forth between cities and haulers, keeping everyone on the same page.
Compliance Programs
Two new modules for specialized compliance tracking:
Large Events (AB 1826)
Track waste diversion requirements for events with 2,000+ attendees. Manage waste diversion plans, post-event reporting, and compliance status.
Self-Hauler Permits
Issue and track permits for businesses that haul their own waste. Monitor compliance with SB 1383 requirements.
AI-Powered Field Tools
Our mobile app got smarter:
- AI Photo Analysis - Take a photo of a violation, and our AI describes what it sees and suggests violation types
- AI Notes Generation - The assistant helps draft professional notes from rough observations
- Improved Error Handling - Better feedback when things go wrong
These features help field staff document violations faster and more consistently.
Franchise Audit Improvements
Major enhancements to our franchise oversight tools:
- Tonnage Reconciliation - Compare hauler-reported tonnage against weight tickets
- Contract Intelligence Alerts - Get notified when fees are due, tonnage discrepancies exceed thresholds, or payments are late
- Oversight Dashboard - Track hauler performance metrics at a glance
- Complaint Import - Bulk import customer complaints and identify discrepancies
UI Polish
- Redesigned sidebar with a cleaner, more modern minimal style
- Increased sidebar font size for better readability
- Improved help center with searchable documentation
